This paper discusses the differences between the Asian American first generation and the Asian American second generation, in the 19th century. Therefore, the paper elaborates on the gap that existed between the two generations, the conflicts that was involved in the gap and how their relationship was affected by the gap. In addition, there are cultural differences between the two groups. However, people from other complexions have discriminated the two groups of Asian American because of their skin color pigment. The Asian people went into America in search of better lives in the United States. They were not allowed to bring in their families into America. However, these Asians got children which made them be called the first generation and their children were known as the second generation. Therefore, they became Chinese Americans because they resided in these states and obtained their education and employment from the United States. However, the second generation did not understand their parents because they preferred to honor their cultural practices. This differences lead to the gap between the two generations as they had conflicts of interest. In summary, the first generation and the second generation of Chinese Americans had a gap between them because the second generation did not understand their parents' need to retain the Chinese cultural practices.

Consequently, Lau realized that thought he is American and she felt the need to remind him that they originated from Chinese, in spite of their stay in America. As a result, she started training him of their cultural practices and the Chinese words. Sadly, Lau's son he said that it was not what he wanted and that all he wanted was to play and study, like the American children. This means that the different identities of whom they are and their wants, the Asian American generations are different. Arguably, they differ in thoughts from their parents because of the different environments they have grown in as the story pictures. Moreover, most of those from the first generation went through challenging periods before they could accustom to life in the United States. Therefore, it is their hope that their children will live better they lived. However, the second
