Main Points and Theories

The interview was conducted to understand the correlation between science, specifically quantum physics, and leadership and management. Through several questions asked, Meg Wheatley talked about how quantum physics have shown us that our existence is a series of interdependent relationships spun together in a large web. This led her to begin to understand that we need to change the older model of the hero-leader at the top of organizations, and begin to think of leadership coming from self-managed teams.

Personal Experience

As a software development manager for one of the world’s largest health care organizations, I would say that I have had my fair share of time spent on many different small teams, that make up a larger team. Each of the teams that I have been on, do things similar, but each have their own unique way of coming together to deliver a quality software product. I think a lot can be learned from a model in which process is dictated from above, and teams are self-managed, allowing them to find the most productive formula for their team.

Knowledge – Primary Source of Wealth

Knowledge in this case is our true understanding of what we learned from past experiences. Meg talks about the U.S. Army being one of the very few “organizations” that have gathered and documented all of their experiences well enough so that they can actually learn from doing so. This of course came from the notion that if they didn’t learn from their previous experiences, then people would die.
