Industrialism and farming were compared and in competition for many years. There's many upsides and downsides to both of them as well as similarities. Industrialism was very important for the U.S. And had many great effects. One positive aspect is that it gave many people jobs. People who were otherwise unemployed could get a job working. Factories and mills were part of the many good outcomes of industrialism. Young girls could get jobs to work their and earn their way in the world. In the book Lyddie, lyddie is able to go work at a mill and earn money to take care of her family. As well as being able to work, the girls could get an education and learn working skills. Another positive thing about industrialism was that it payed more than farming jobs did. The wage you earned depended on the amount of work you did. And farming was just as hard. As well as there being a positive side to industrialism, there was for farming. Farming had a much better atmosphere than the work in the factories. It was a lot healthier for people to be working in the nice outdoor conditions with the fresh air than in a stuffy factory. The factories caused many sicknesses and injuries, but farming offered better health for people. Before the industrial revolution, many people were living in harsh conditions and poverty. Many people, especially young children were dying. When the industrial revolution hit it gave children jobs in factories. This gave many children a chance to live when the would've possibly died. Parents could work for a factory or be a farmer, without their children they can save more money for other things. Industrialism and farming were both good and bad and brought many good things to America
