Dear, Trump

Torture is a very diverse topic that has two different sides. There are some ups and downs to it, but I think that for the most part there are more negatives than positives. I also think that Guantanamo Bay should be closed down.

I think that torture is against human’s basic right. Some places use torture as a device to get information out of a person. But, that’s unconstitutional because according to the 5th amendment, it is against the constitution for someone to say something that can be held against them (to a certain extent). So, we are violating their human right because we are making them self incriminate themselves against their will.

Torture also is somewhat ineffective and unnecessary at times because there have been cases where people have confessed already confessed/given information but they still end up getting tortured. Some people use the reason that torture helps get information to help justify the act of torture, but by torturing someone after they had already given the wanted information, that makes it so that torture was never needed in the first place. In the New York Time’s article titled “Does Torture Work?”, one example in this article is the Thwarting of the Karachi Plots. Ammar al-Baluchi and Khallad bin Attash were in line to get interrogated in May 2003 when the United States was trying to prevent an attack on the United States Karachi, Pakistan. The committee states that the C.I.A. already had all the information they needed, before they interrogated anyone. This case shows that torture is never really “needed” or necessary” and the United States is taking advantage in a way of these people.

Even though i am not for torture i still think that it can be used for good. I believe that there are many instances where torture could be useful. But, I think the best idea it that it could be the last resort. I believe that as long as we have
