Recruiting and selecting the right employees is imperative for the survival of the organization. The company needs to have the correct employees with the needed qualifications, skills and mindsets for each job. Unless all the factors are correctly matched, the company will end up hiring inappropriate employees. The organizational targets will not be achieved, and there is always a risk of the employees leaving the company for better prospects outside. Therefore, the recruitment and selection process must be carefully dealt with.
Developing Requirements for Each Job
Management must carefully assess and develop the needs and requirements for each position in the organization. The minimum eligibility criteria to be met for each position must be ascertained. The criteria could be the educational qualifications required, such as the minimum of a college degree for a managerial position. Also, management must define the minimum years of experience required for a particular job. This is essential because there are some jobs that need the employee to be familiar with the skills and technologies beforehand.
Posting the Vacancy
When a vacancy arises in the company, suitable candidates need to be informed about it. The HR department informs both internal employees and external candidates. The aim is to select the best employee from a large pool of candidates. The internal employees are notified via emails and posting the vacancy on the company's intranet. For external candidates, the HR department advertises in newspapers, posts the vacancy on its website and uses the services of head hunters.
