The American Dream can be viewed in many ways. From an educated man to a man dreaming of more, both Jillson and Rosa have thought of the dream. Although they are both from different backgrounds and races, they each view the American Dream as the hope for a better life.
As the American Dream sank lower and lower because of the bad economy, it still lived for Jillson and Rosa. Cal Jillson believed that the American Dream stood for equality and individualism. With those ideas, people can achieve the American Dream from where ever they are in life. While it was tough for black men and all women back in the times of slavery, they all gained their freedom in America. With their freedom, they gained the ability to dream for more. Rafael Rosa spoke of a life of the working class and poor men in America. He explained how hard the life is just from walking down the street and being beaten by strangers. From getting fired any time by your bosses to having talents that will get you nowhere, Rosa showed how hard the economy is from his viewpoint. Although it was hard to live and he could have easily given up, instead he still had hope for a better life. He spent all day dreaming of his American Dream and hoping one day he can grow to more. Both of these men, while so different, thought of the American Dream as a hope for a better and successful life.
From an educated author to a working bellhop at a hotel, the American Dream lives on. No matter where you are in life, everyone has hope for more. Cal Jillson acknowledged the tough times it was for blacks and women to achieve the American Dream and Rafael Rosa spoke of his life and of how he wanted more.
