Thesis Statement

The Wizard of OZ highlight the American culture of 20th century based on respecting everyone gives what happens, think or longs, because that is where prevailing values ​​such as empathy, humility and solidarity.

Analysis

We have always imagined the Wizard of Oz as a fairy tale for children, but over the decades, there have been many studies and interpretations of the true meaning of this story and these characters have in their background of children's story.

This tale with 115 years of history chronicles the adventures of Dorothy and her dog Toto, who are swept by a hurricane from Kansas to the land of the Munckins. To go home Dorothy has to follow a yellow brick road leading you to the Emerald City, where the mighty Wizard of Oz may return to Kansas. Along the way he is making friends accompanying him on his trip in order to also ask the Wizard some favors: the eager to have a brain scarecrow, the tin man, a heart, and the Cowardly Lion, who came to the Wizard to ask value. Everyone has a reason to go to the Emerald City, but which one is more important?

Salber and Coutaz (pp. 219-30) pointed out that the Wizard of Oz is the story of a girl, Dorothy, who gets caught with his dog Toto in a vortex that leads them to a strange land, where by chance he'll kill the Wicked Witch of the East, whom his shoes will stay silver. There she meets the Scarecrow who wanted to have a brain, the Tin Woodman wanted to have the heart and the Cowardly Lion who wanted to have value. These four characters travel with Dorothy who wants to return home to the Emerald City, where the Wizard of Oz, who expect to get their desires lives. On his way they will live many adventures as they could be facing winged monkeys, fearsome witches, meet the queen of the mice and their subjects, dangerous poppies, whose aroma is deadly to fragile neighboring country of Fine Porcelain, etc. Upon reaching the Emerald City and talk to the Wizard, they embark on a perilous journey, during end the Wicked Witch of the West pattern  (Payne, pp. 25-39).

After get it and return to the Emerald Green city, they discover that the magician is nothing but a fraud, for which only manages to satisfy the wishes of the friends of Dorothy, since these were only in his imagination, however little Dorothy fails to realize his desire, which is to go back to Kansas with her aunt Em and uncle Henry.
