Be Yourself, Be Confident, Be Truthful
When I was in second grade, my mother suddenly decided to take me back to Taiwan. It was very hard for me to get use to the culture in Taiwan when I just moved back. I was very shy and nervous because I cannot speak fluent Mandarin. Being confident became a huge issue for me, especially at school. My classmates started taking advantage of me and making fun of me since I do not know how to speak up for myself. People started to talk behind my back, even about things that were not true. After going through all these depressing days, I believe it is really important to be myself and be confident.
I started to try to make friends even though I am not fluent in Mandarin. Learning that language should not be a barrier to make friends, I am much more confident when I talk to people. I also learned that people have to be truthful to others in order for them to be truthful to you because when my classmate spread rumors about me that were not true, I would never want to trust her. Therefore I try never to be fake or talk behind people’s back because I do not want them to do that to me either. If there was something that bothers me about a friend, I would just be brave and tell them in a nice way. It might be hurtful at first when you tell someone that they are bothering you, but in the long-run people will appreciate you telling them how you really feel about them. Never let something that bothers you keep bothering you because one day you will get into a bad argument with your friend about it. You are helping them by telling them what you think they are doing wrong; and if they are your true friend, they will appreciate it.
After getting to know my classmates, I notice that people who are being fake to others end up with fake relationships or do not have friends they can express their true feelings to. It is an endless cycle when a person decides to be untruthful to others. How you
