Adoptable Children
While searching the AdoptUsKids website, it was very noticeable how many children need a loving home. The population ranged from infancy to early adulthood. All of these individuals came with very unique personality and characteristics that many families will adore. It was very difficult to narrow it down, however, below is the description of the three children chose based on different criteria.
Clinton is a two year old Caucasian male who currently resides in Oregon in a foster home. Clinton struggles with a variety of medical issues (were not listed) and is developmentally delayed for his age. Even though Clinton has limited vision, he is still a handsome and loving little boy. Clinton is required to receive therapy so that he is able to develop, mentally and physically.
Skyon is a five year old Black male who currently resides I North Carolina. Skyon comes with many behavior issues due to his past trauma and losses. Skyon receives intensive home treatment as well as therapy to improve his behavior. Being that he requires high levels of structure, Skyon is at his best when he is the only child in the home.
Janie is a four year old Caucasian female who resides in Texas. Janie appears to be very small for her age. Janie is delayed and requires constant supervision. Feeding is also a struggle with Janie being that she requires a feeding tube. Even though Janie is very loving and sociable, she requires intense therapy on a daily basis.
Some children could be more easily placed in foster care as well as adopted out based upon their age. Some individuals seek adoption for a variety of reasons. One might be because they aren’t able to conceive naturally. With that being said, they look for children younger in age so that they are able to get the full experience of being parents. On the contrary, older children come with more behavior issues rather than younger children. When the children are younger, they do not necessarily understand the concept of what is happening. However, older children are fully aware of their trauma and or losses; this being the number one factor within their behavior issues.
When preparing to adopt these specific individuals, parents should definitely educate themselves on the children’s recent trauma as well as medical history. Adopting children can be a very emotional experience. It could be beneficial for everyone involved, to prepare themselves on what to expect. For instance, parents could prepare for the children to be somewhat resistant to their rules and or household in general. Parents can also remain in contact with other individuals involved in the case so that there are no surprises. For example, if one of the children has a certain type of behavior, the parents will already be informed rather than being surprised. I also believe that family therapy as well as in home support could help ease the transition for every party involved.
