Although the consumption of alcohol is illegal for anyone under the age of 21, people aged 12-20 consume 11% of all alcohol consumed in the U.S. Adolescents usually tend to be the most risk-taking which is why they are introduced to alcohol in the wrong way. Alcohol seems to be the drug of choice among all teens. This is caused by peer pressure, the thoughts of the calming effect, and ultimately, parental influences. The effects of the choices of alcohol include health issues, legal problems, and bad relationships.

In today’s world, there are many temptations I waiting to grab all teenagers, one of these are alcohol. Peer Pressure is a big part of a teenager’s life. Teens will be asked to do things that are morally and legally wrong. They have a lot going on in their life, which one of the things include having to or being able to fit in with people around them. So when they see the “popular” crowd going out and drinking and having a good time, they will think that that’s the right thing to do to get the right kind of attention from them. When kids are pressured into drinking they will most often give in, just to be part of the cool crowd. Another reason people drink is for the calming or care-free effects brought on by the alcohol. People think that it’s a good way to relieve stress or depression. Because they do this for this reason it actually just makes things worse for themselves. Also another main reason for starting or abusing alcohol is the result of influences. Watching your role models all of the years, growing up, it really has a huge effect on you. When you watch them consume big amounts of alcohol, it will influence you to do as well.

Now that I’ve given you the causes of consuming alcohol, I will now present the effects it has on you. First off, a big problem that is caused are health problems. After long prolong drinking, a huge effect or harmful one, is cirrhosis of the liver. It can also permanently slow down a person’s coordination which can matter
