Helen Keller Case

Anne Sullivan was very strict when it came to obedience with Helen Keller and while teaching the young girl sign language; she also gave her the gift of independence. Before Anne Sullivan was introduced to Keller’s world, Keller was a disobedient, rude, and spoiled child. With education a child must be obedient and able to sit still while wanting to learn and take in the world through learning. Once someone is obedient, independence starts to take place. I say this because at first Keller was independent mostly and she did not rely on Sullivan for anything because of the lack of obedience and respect.
Helen Keller and I are very different, but yet somewhat alike. We are different in that she is deaf and blind, while I am able to speak and see. Our similarities consist of how no one expected us to become so good at something that we contain great passion for. Helen is passionate about learning and understanding the world around her, and I am passionate about volleyball and growing stronger.
Helen tried to communicate with her parents and the world around her, but without the help of Anne Sullivan, she had troubles. Her case is much like mine and how I tried to be the best at what I do but without the right instruction and training was really bad. We both needed extra help and guidance to show us what we needed to learn in order to achieve our goals. No one, not even her parents or brother, would’ve expected to see her excel in learning and speaking as she did just as no one expected me to excel so well in volleyball over the two years. Both Helen and I showed dramatic improvement in a short period of time.
Anne Sullivan is truly a miracle worker because as she taught Helen she also taught herself, the world, and Keller’s parents as well.
