Connotation of Loyalty

Loyalty is a concept that can be interpreted from several points of view. It describes ones trust and allegiance. Loyalty can encompass other concepts such as love, devotion, friendship, and success. With the presence of loyalty strong relationships can be built. Loyalty is a trait all people should possess in order to have healthy relationships.
The denotation of loyalty is to give or show firm and constant support towards a person. In the dictionary "devotion" is a synonym for loyalty. These two words are very similar; they both are meaningful and positive affections. Some may think that loyalty is devotion itself; this cannot be true because loyalty is simply the foundation of devotion. Devotion and loyalty have completely different and unlike meanings. An example of loyalty is when a person is in a relationship; one is loyal by treating the other with respect and support. When thinking of the word devotion, school comes to mind, how devotion relates to being devoted to schoolwork and succeeding in life. Loyalty compares to feelings and expectations towards others, while devotion represents personal goals. Even though loyalty and devotion have very similar denotation meanings, their connotation meanings are unlike.
Loyalty is a virtue. This virtue is very important to have in one's life. It is the key in succeeding, and to maintain healthy relationships. If thinking analytically, it could be understood that almost every conflict occurs by because someone was being un-loyal. An example of this would be when a person lies. This is a great example of what loyalty isn't because it shows how a person was being dishonest by lying, causing them to be un-loyal in the relationship. Without loyalty the world would be full of issues and disagreements.
