The name of the novel is “Frankenstein” by “Mary Shelley”. When Mary Shelley wrote “Frankenstein” she was eighteen/nineteen and it was a dream she had about a monster that scared her so much she decided to write about it. Her mother died ten days after giving birth to her. In the novel the creator of the monster is Victor Frankenstein; one of the main characters. When the monster is created at the beginning of the novel the monster is not evil or kind. The monster just wants to fit in.
The monster does not want to hurt or harm anyone all he wants is to fit in.
The monster is morally good; the monster lives with the De lacy family. Although the monster is kind to the De lacey’s he does not gain acceptance from them. The monster goes out to the woods and cuts wood for the De lacey’s to put in there fire place. “I found that the youth spent a great part of each day in collecting wood for the family fire, and during the night I often took his tools, the use of which I quickly discovered, and brought home firing sufficient for the consumption of several days” (Shelly; 109).In this quote, the monster goes out to the woods to cut wood for the De lacey’s. He notices that the youth are the ones who go out and cut wood and it is a job that takes up a lot of their time; due to the monsters supernatural force it would take him less time. He does not know how to use the tools but he teaches himself just to help out and save the De lacey’s some time. “This trait of kindness moved me sensibly. I had been accustomed, during the night, to steal a part of their store for my own consumption, but when I found that in doing this I inflicted pain on the cottagers (this is how the monster referred to the De lacey’s) I abstained and satisfied myself with berries, nuts, and roots which I gathered from a neighboring wood” (Shelly, 109). The monster would eat from the food that the De lacey’s had at their home but the monster noticed that the reason why the De Lacey’s were sad was because of their poverty and therefore it was hard for them to find/ buy food. When the monster realized this he stopped eating their food and would eat anything he could find such as berries and nuts in the woods. The monster was very caring for the De Lacey’s and the human race for he described them as beautiful creatures. “If such lovely creatures were miserable, it was less strange that I, an imperfect and solitary being, should be wretched.”(Shelly, 109). The monster did not understand why they were so down if they were beautiful, so if they were sad and beautiful then the monster thought that it made sense for him to be so unhappy and miserable because he was ugly. “ I continued to wind among the paths…escaped into the wood.”(Shelly, 142). This is the point in the book when everything changes it is the turning point of the book and the monsters actions. In the quote it mentions that the girl running
