In the novel “Lord of the Flies” some characters represent abstract ideas, such as Ralph who is the main representation of civilization and order, Jack who represents Savagery and violence, Simon who represents the good in human nature, Piggy who represents the scientific and reasoning side of humanity and The Lord Of the Flies who represents the evil that lies in all men’s souls.

Ralph’s main goal was to get rescued; He was the main representation of civilized human living and order. He wanted to build shelters and keep a signal fire going at all times to ensure rescue. Ralph clashed with Jack a lot because Jack who represents the exact opposite of jack, Savagery and Violence, had different priorities and had a different approach to problems .Jack represents Savagery because he loves power and will do anything for it, he was jealous of Ralph when he was chosen leader. Jack wishes to show dominance over other boys through punishing them and getting his way, he enjoyed killing the pig because it showed his dominance over nature.

Simon’s murder represents the lack of goodness and abundance of evil in the world.
