As he laid strewn in pain over the shimmering sand, piggy could not comprehend what had just happened. At one moment, he stood over the rocks, the next, he felt himself tumbling over the cliff and onto the warm, comforting sand. He could not see clearly, and the clouds appeared foggy. Commotion could be heard up on the rocks, and he tried to call out for help, but a surge of pain rang through his body; so painful that he had to lay still and lifeless. He slowly turned his head to come face to face with a pool of red. Instantly, he began to hyperventilate. The familiar metallic smell and color of the blood brought piggy face to face with the painful past. The night of his birthday. All was well; he had just cut his two layered chocolate cake and enjoyed a home cooked meal, prepared by Auntie and Mummy. Nothing could possibly bring him down. Suddenly, the phone rang, and father proceeded out the dining room and into the kitchen. This was an often occurrence, and it was degrading to hear the furious screams through the kitchen walls. regardless, piggy continued to chomp on his special cake. He had received a pair of trousers, special from his dad. After the birthday festivities, he said goodnight, and headed upstairs to wash up, and headed to bed.The excitement of the day prevented him from sleeping. The world was quiet and everyone had gone to bed. Slowly, but surely he dozed off. He awoke to a strange noise seeming to come from the hallway. Curious of the noise, he stepped out of his bedroom to investigate the source of the noise. He found himself in front of his parent’s room, frightened by the unusual sounds. He opened the door and carefully crawled into the bed. He did it quietly so as not to wake his parents. He wormed his way in between his parents, waiting for sleep to take him. a warmness blanketed him and a feeling of heat reached his stomach. It was wet, and coming from his father’s side.
“Father you’ve wet the bed! Father!” Piggy said shaking him.
“Father, wake up!”. His mother woke up from Piggy’s commotion.
“Darling, go to bed” she said.
“But, Mum, father’s wet the bed.” He sat up and heard a gasp escaping his mother. Then he heard her shriek as if something had frightened her. He did not see clear white sheets but a dark stain spreading from his father. Then the smell, the metallic smell of blood overpowered the room, his mother’s screams drowning out his thoughts. The door burst open and Auntie rushed in, curious as to what the commotion was about. she took sight of Father’s lifeless body, and let out a choked sob.
“He died! He’s dead! Dear Lord, he’s dead!” Auntie shouted.
