The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
Alexis Jackson 5th block 3/9/15
In Adventures of Huckleberry Finn written by Mark Twain, Huckleberry Finn plays a drastic character, but he also has a sidekick by the name of Jim. At first Huck sees Jim as nothing but a slave but then Huck and Jim start to go through so much together that they both come to realization that they've developed a close connection. Huck and Jim are two outsiders to their civilization. Huck wants to escape from his pap and elders and Jim wants to escape down the river to freedom. Huck and Jim's relationship has changed because Huck's attitude has bettered towards Jim, trust has began to form between the two, and loyal friendship has taken place.
Huck has developed a better attitude and understanding towards Jim therefore Huck starts to looks at Jim a certain way and talk to him differently. Huck's attitude really changed toward Jim because he actually started caring for him. He didn't want Jim to get caught because he knew the consequences so he "made Jim lay down in the canoe and cover up with the quilt". When Huck made Jim lay down in that canoe, it showed how he developed a caring attitude. Huck told him to lay down and cover up because he didn't want Jim to risk the risk of getting caught. He "made Jim lay down in the canoe and cover up with the quilt" because he started connecting the situation to himself and placed himself into the place that Jim was in. He questioned would he have wanted to be told on. Huck sees something in Jim that reminds him of himself and he doesn’t want to be mistreated or turned in therefore Huck decides to better his attitude towards Jim.
Huck and Jim have really had their ups and downs and questioning but further along in the story a bond or trust begins to form. Huck has really been put through real trials and tribulations with Jim. Just as Huck is about to tell on Jim, Jim says to huck, "Dah you goes, de ole true Huck; de only white gentleman dat ever kep' his promise to ole Jim'. Huck manages to comes through for Jim. Jim speaks his quote so huck can feel guilty for what he's about to do to poor ole Jim. Jim is trying to prevent Huck from trading on him and giving him to the enemy. Huck picks up on it and does the right thing and keeps his word. Although Huck has second thoughts on turning Jim in and doing the right thing for society, he corrects himself and goes by his heart. He and Jim develop a trust through each other from obstacles that come in their way.
Throughout the novel Jim and Huck have come to many crossroads, but somehow they manage to pull each other through hardships and developed a loyal friendship. Huck and Jim are with nature plenty of times in this story but they use each others skills
