The Crucible is a play written by Arthur Miller, that illustrates a story of the Salem, Massachusetts witch trials. Arthur Miller wrote this during a time a mass hysteria over the threat of communism spreading. He wrote this using the real trials he was facing to tell the story of the 17th century witch-hunt. In Salem there was mass chaos because of the threat witchcraft and how to get rid of it. The Crucible is a play about a group of girls and their leader Abigail Williams cry of witchery on innocent town members.

The movie starts off as the girls meet in the middle of the night to have some careless fun. They all cast love spells on those they love except Abigail Williams who asks a black slave Tituba to help her cast a death spell on her lover John Proctor’s wife Elizabeth. As the dancing continues the Reverend Paris catches the girls off guard and they flee. Next day Rev. Paris ‘s child Betty becomes ill as well as another town member Thomas Putnam’s daughter. The only problem with illness is nothing is wrong except they can’t wake up. Suspicions start to fly so Rev. Paris calls in known witch doctor Reverend John Hale. After Rev. Hale examines the girls he hears about the dancing and demands to know who started this. Abigail immediately says that Tituba sent the devil to them. The hysteria all begins when Tituba confesses to the devil calling her as says others who were with the devil. Those she and the girls cried out were asked to confess and be saved or not confess and face hanging. The leading court of justice of Massachusetts was called in to conduct the trials. Then the girls started crying witch on others in town saying their spirits were coming and haunting. One day as a trial was going on servant of John Proctor; Mary Warren was sewing a doll for Elizabeth Proctor as Abigail looked on. Later that day Abigail came in the church running saying that the spirit of spirit of Elizabeth Proctor lead her to stab herself. In evening official of the court came to take Elizabeth because they saw the doll Mary Warren made with a needle stuck in it. They assumed it was some type of voodoo doll and she was taken to prison. John was devoted to prove his wife’s innocence
