Group Assignment: Understanding the supply chain and operations solutions

The supply chain is made up of a network of firms and partners that constantly strive to satisfy customers’ demands at the lowest cost. The success of a company (or the product it sells) is dependent greatly upon how the company integrates its sourcing, making and other logistics functions with its supply chain partners to seamlessly deliver the goods/services to the end-customers.

This group assignment requires you to research, as a group (6 members), into a product of your choice and its supply chain. You are to prepare a portfolio of the supply chain of your product as follows:

a. Description of the product.

b. Identify the distribution channels and methods. Provide specific examples on how the distribution channel(s) fulfill its functions, in particular, the physical distribution.

c. Trace and draw the supply chain from source (eg different raw materials, components) to the finished goods. You can either use the network view or process view to accomplish this.

d. Explain and discuss how three (3) Key Performance Indices (KPIs) can be used for supply chain management.

e. Site and explain two(2) evidences how the supply chain or logistics activities contribute to Corporate Social Responsibility.

f. Discuss the operation management strategy in terms of competitiveness.

g. Research on two (2) supply chain challenges and propose solutions to the challenges identified which may include solutions using;

 product designs & selection

 facility layout for the product

 capacity
