Vincent Van Gogh's legend the Starry Night 1889 was painted at mental asylum of Saint-Remy, where Van Gogh was admitted and treated. The Starry Night is Van Gogh most famous painting; it was done 13 months before Van Gogh's death at the age of 37. Van Gogh lived a short life but the artwork he painted is very famous and remembered.

The starry night is famous because of Van Gogh's unique style and colors. For example, he painted at night, so he "hung candles around the brim of his hat, and around the picture canvas, so that he can see what he is painting". This painting was done using oil paints on a canvas with the size of 72cm x 92cm around June of 1889. The painting includes eleven stars and crescent moon filling the sky. In addition, he adds religious beliefs to the painting by painting a church in the middle of the town. Van Gogh uses semi-blurred texture, also plays with colors to create a mood and make it mysterious. The overall mood of van Gogh's painting is that it's intriguing, descriptive, and mysterious.

Van Gogh's "The Starry Night" has proven, that emotions can be conveyed through color and brushstroke. The colors show the effect of the night, the calmness of the night that each individual can relate to. The artist used a lot of shapes and lines that are important to the work. The light and dark color contrast creates sensation of depth and the calmness of the night; it represents the solitude of the night. Also, there are no human figures in the painting to show the calm night. Starry night represents drama and communication with nature. Van gogh's style is very different and unusual; he designed his work in way which speaks for itself, the painting is calm but there is a mystery to it.
