SAMPLE EXAMINATION PAPER, July 2015 semester

Time allowed:  2½ hours plus 10 minutes reading time*

*During the 10 minutes reading time you may write on this paper but not on the answer book.

NOTE TO INVIGILATORS

THIS IS A CLOSED BOOK EXAMINATION

                Instructions to candidates

1.        There are three Sections in this paper.  You should answer ONE question from each Section. Section A contains only one question, which is therefore compulsory; Sections B and C each offer a choice of either one from two questions which are offered. The Section A question carries 34 marks, and the questions in Sections B and C each carry 33 marks.

2.        Some questions may be in two or more parts.  All of these parts should be attempted, and given an amount of time and attention which is proportionate to the marks allocated.

3.        Please ensure that you write your 4-digit exam I.D. number and paper reference number on the front of your answer book (and on the front of all your answer books, if you need more than one). Failure to do so may mean that your script cannot be marked.

4.        In the box on the front cover page of your answer book, fill in the numbers of the questions that you have answered, in the sequence in which you have answered them.

NB:  if you are taking the exam in its computer-based format you will find that it doesn’t actually provide any template for this – at the start of your script, pse add in a note stating which questions you have attempted.

5.        If you use more than one answer booklet, all your booklets should be secured together with a Treasury tag.  This should be inserted through the holes in your books though not tied with a knot.

6.        In answering these questions, leave a clear trail of your calculations so that the examiner can see how you have reached your final results from the data provided in the question, and explain your reasons for your answers including any assumptions you have made.  This is equally relevant whether you are doing your exam using the SecureExam computer-based system or in hand-written hard copy.
