Anita Satterlee, in her text Organizational Management and Leadership: a Christian Perspective, defines situational analysis is “concerned with evaluating the current condition of an organization and its capabilities in order to ascertain the plausibility of future plans and strategies.” (Satterlee, 2009, p. 71)

Summary:

The article that I will summarize is “An Analytical Approach to the Unequivocal Need of Organizations for Job Evaluation” by Muhammad Ali El-Hajji. El-Hajji is recognized for being a former lecturer of Liverpool John Moored University and Liverpool community college.

The article focused on an important subject that as El-Hajji (2011) stated job evaluation is consistently overlooked with seriousness until unions confront management about adequate pay. It is a process in which corporate review every position within the organization to evaluate whether it is essential or meaningless. While this issue may not become a priority for the company at the time, but it becomes a main concern for employees undervalued when compared to other employees within the same position. The impact of this may lead to a soldiering effect amongst those undervalued causing productivity to become negatively impacted. With a proper job evaluation on a quarterly and annually provide corporate with an opportunity to evaluate every position and assess whether the company is operating efficiently. Frequently companies disregard whether positions or employees are either under, over, or fairly compensated due to poor evaluation may become financially impacted. Some companies need to take into account that the addition of new technology improves the daily operations for both the employer and the employee, which should reflect salaries otherwise the companies, may lose the benefits from incorporating this new technology. El-Hajji (2011) stated, “A well-designed job evaluation should bear this in mind and respond to such changes, because the world in which we live is “a world of shortening product life cycles.”(p.12)
