ANWR Argument
Research the Alaska National Wildlife Reserve and the attempts to drill for oil on the reserve. Is it ethical to drill for oil in a protected wildlife reserve?
Response:
It is perfectly ethical to drill for oil in a protected wildlife reserve.
By drilling in Alaska, it is not only going to create an increase of drilling oil but also increase the employment opportunities for people living within and around the site, studies have shown job creation ranging from 55,000 to 130,000 jobs. Which is ethical since its creating more good than harm and is promoting a caring relationship. (Caring/building community)
By drilling in ANWR it can have a significant sociological impact including better schools and improved health care for children and people living within and around the oil-drilling communities. Also, it will bring other economic benefits to their communities, like the village of Katovik (a town within the coastal plain of ANWR). (Caring/Building community)
ANWR can help develop alternative energy resource in the future. The oil from ANWR supports the world economy for the meantime, but it is expected that it can lessen the United States dependence on foreign oil overtime. (Utilitarian)
Advancements in new technology allow for energy production to occur safely within minimal environment impact. New extended reach drilling allows for one single drilling platform to cover a 28,000ft radius. (Sustainability)
