This assignment requires students to complete an analysis of LensCrafters.  This analysis of LensCrafters is broken down into a five part segment to give you an overall concept of how LensCrafters was started, how it runs its business on a day-to-day basis, and how it keeps a competitive edge over its competitors. The first thing that has to be done is to evaluate LensCrafters’ operations strategy and explain how the organization seeks to gain a competitive advantage in terms of sustainability. The second is to analyze how operation management activities affect the customer experience. The third will be to examine LensCrafters’ value chain and evaluate its effectiveness to operations in terms of quality, value creation, and customer satisfaction. The fourth will be to determine the different types of performance measurements that can be used to measure LensCrafters’ service-delivery system design. The last one is to examine the different types of technologies applied to LensCrafters’ service operations and evaluate how the technologies strengthen the value chain.

The 30-year history of LensCrafters is it is a leader in optical retailing with more locations across North America than any other retailer in the category (Business Wire, 2014). LensCrafters is owned by Luxottica Group, a leader in premium, luxury and sports eyewear with approximately 7,000 optical and sun retail stores in North America, Asia-Pacific, China, South Africa, Latin America and Europe (Business Wire, 2014).  LensCrafters is part of the Eye Love global retail brand family that offers complete vision care through trusted eye care and quality eyewear (Business Wire, 2014). LensCrafters are inspiring people to fall in love with their sense of sight, investing in new technology, and offering an exceptional range of eyewear with their parent company, Luxottica Group. The brands share a heritage of care and innovation that spans a total of more than 80 years (Business Wire, 2014). We will start with the first segment of this assignment:

  1. Evaluate LensCrafters’ Operations Strategy and explain how the Organization seeks to gain a Competitive Advantage in terms of Sustainability

We first have to look at one of LensCrafters’ main mission statements.  It is focused on being the best by creating customers for life by delivering legendary customer service.  This starts with implementing an operations strategy plan for the company. An operations strategy is specific functions of how an organization will best determine and develop it resources in order to support the infrastructure and production. These strategies have to be driven by performance and work quality of the overall organization business strategy of the operations.  It is designed to maximize their functions effectively in order to have a positive outcome result for the organization.
