Bureaucratic Style, Administrative Principles and Human Resources Perspective

One of the core elements to any successful organization is embedded inside of their management team. Organizations for decades have studied the various management philosophies in order to better improve their quality and commitment to establishing a better organization. There have been numerous management theories that many organizations subscribe to operate their organizations more effectively. With these theories in mind I subscribe to a mix philosophy in my management philosophy. Peter Drucker stated "Give direction to their organization, provide leadership, and decide how to use organizational resources to accomplish goals".

Daft explains that" organizations are social entities that are goal-directed, are designed as deliberately structured and coordinated activity systems and are linked to the external environment (Daft, 2012). Organizations are made up of people and their relationships with one another. Managers deliberately structure and coordinate organizational resources to achieve the organization's purpose." Managers' jobs are to direct the path of their organization in order to achieve the most efficient results possible. In order for organizations to achieve their goals they depend on managers to navigate the trails in which will place them on the path to success. Peter Drucker says "Management means, in the last analysis, the substitution of thought for brawn and muscle, of knowledge for folkways and superstition, and of cooperation for force (Daft, 2012). It means the substitution of responsibility for obedience to rank, and of authority of performance for the authority of rank."

I subscribe to a mix style of management theories that includes Bureaucratic style, Administrative Principles and Human resources perspective. Having a diverse style of management allows an individual the opportunity to expand their ability to manage as well as communicate effectively with the diverse workforce that they may encounter. Every organization can be classified as a system and within a system there must be standards established in order to operate efficiently. Organizations can be viewed as a living organism in which the organization must concentrate on forward progress and have the ability to change the system whenever change is deemed necessary. The Five Management Functions that Richard Draft describes are planning, organizing, leading coordinating, and controlling in which are the basic functions of a organization (Daft, 2012).

Max Weber was the major contributor to bureaucratic management. Bureaucratic management focuses on rational authority form of organization. Weber concluded that many organizations lack the proper management in all levels of the organization in which caused these organizations not to perform at their full potential (Daft, 2012).
