Business writing is about appropriate and inappropriate. State the facts. This is however as good as the
direction your boss gives. Whereas most business leader’s expectation is governed by the above
mentioned rule, in the isolated cases where your boss requires something different, you have to follow
your boss’s directive.
Control has become the essence of achieving understanding, efficiency, persuasiveness and clarity. A
business report in its first paragraph should state what the rest of the report will say and the order in
which the material will be presented. This is the universally accepted pattern of business writing.
Getting straight to the point is the essence. In the first few lines, “you must tell both what you found
out in your research and in what order you are going to present the explanation of your findings”.
Furthermore, it must possess the following characteristics; must be neat, grammatically accurate,
effective and appropriate.
Mindful of the fact that most business leader does not have time to read lengthy reports. A summary
that states that facts, lean and straight to the point. With that, the business leader will have the option
to further dig in the rest of the report for the support to the thesis.
Thoughts must be structured and concise. “Say it, explain it, detail it and say it again” is the best
