Lucintel is one of the leading global management consulting and marketing research firms and this paper is based on their data identifying the top five global motorcycle companies in the world. Asia and Latin American rely heavily on two wheel modes of transportation and are expected to remain the two most promising markets. Lucintel used revenue, market size, average operating profit, average net profit, and annual growth rate as determining factors for their list. The number one global performing company is Honda Motor Company Limited, followed by Yamaha Moto Company Limited, Hero MotoCorp Limited, Bajaj Auto Limited, and lastly Harley-Davidson Incorporation ("Top Five Global Motorcycle Companies," 2013).
Honda Moto Company Limited
Honda Moto Company Limited is the leading global company in the motorcycle industry. Their Mission Statement is extremely simple “Maintaining a global viewpoint, we are dedicated to supplying products of the highest quality, yet at a reasonable price for worldwide customer satisfaction” ("Honda Corporate Profile," 2015, p. 1). The company’s headquarters was established in 1948 and is located in Tokyo, Japan. As of April 2014, the company had over 23, 467 employees on a nonconsolidated basis. The company reports per capital of over 86 billion yen worldwide as of April 2014 ("Honda Corporate Profile," 2015). Honda Moto Company Limited has a vision of “Bringing the convenience and fun of a motorcycle to as many people as possible” ("Honda Corporate Profile," 2015, p. 2).
The company produces a wide range of two wheeled moto transportation to a variety of needs in the expanding global market. The company accomplished this by establishing sales and production outside of Japan early in its foundation. The strengths of the company evolve around the Japan’s technical capabilities around the world. In order to continue to meet the needs of its customers Honda has an extensive research and development program, which uses “humanoid robots” and technology to predict the future needs of the industry. Finally, the company uses strict company governance to continue to build the level of trust of its shareholders, investors, customers, and public so the company continues to be a company society wants to exist. This included risk management and environmental compliance ("Honda Corporate Profile," 2015).
Harley-Davidson Incorporation
The company that holds the fifth position on the list is Harley-Davidson Incorporation. The company founded in 1903 and is the largest producer of American made motorcycles in the world today. Harley-Davidson’s mission statement is “We fulfill dreams through the experience of motorcycling, by providing to motorcyclist and the general public an expanding line of motorcycles and branded products and services in the selected market segments” ("Mission Statements.com," 2015)
