CASE STUDY

NEGOCIOS I

PROF. MANFRED BRAUCHLE

MARTIN TAPIA

  1. Describe Ugandan cultural attributes that may affect the operations of a foreign company doing business there.

Uganda has some cultural attributes that affects in a positive way operations of a foreign company doing business there. I think that the most important is that they speak English, this is important because facilitates communication between the host country and the company that is doing business there.  Mainly because English is the most common language spoke in global business. Also Uganda is a stable country relative to Africa. This is important because many countries in Africa are unstable political and religiously because of dictatorships or a part of the Islam and other religions.

  1. How would you describe the respective attitudes of Martin and Green?

The attitude of Martin is Polycentric. As the case described Martin interact whit the locals directly. In Uganda he adopted their lifestyle by interacting intensively whit them.

In the other hand we have Martin`s boss, Green. His attitude is geocentric. He recognize and study the culture in the host country because they are operating there and don’t want to have any problems. But he consider that the way of doing business have to be consistent with the home characteristics.

  1. Who was right, Green or Martin, about Martin`s more controversial actions in facilitating the project?

In my opinion there is not a correct approach on Martin`s actions. I think that that Martin did a good job because he put the investment in a good position, even though his actions were “controversial”. We will never know how things has turned up without Martin, surely differently, but there is no a concrete list of thing to do to reach success. Despite all the circumstances Martin Manage to do a correct task by generating advance in the development of the project.
