Christian Worldview/Statics Integration Paper

If you were a senior executive at Pepsi-Cola and a Coca-Cola employee came to you with an offer to sell you the market plan and a sample of a new Coke product for a decent price. Would you take this offer or pass? In the business world we will be faced with questions like these all the time. Whether its as big as buying an opponents marketing plan of a new product or as simple as manipulating a few numbers or selecting a certain type of statistical chart to make results appear not as they actually are. In this paper I will be addressing the ethical issues previously raised and how they can be addressed from a Christian worldview. I will show you the principles and the certain guidelines that I as a Christian would use and how my faith and Christian worldview would lead me to the right decision.

One of the most important and ethical guidelines from the article “Reflection Before Action: The Statistical Consultant Confronts Ethical Issues” would be, maintain integrity by being honest and objective (Ostapski). To me this has a lot to do with character as well. In order to be honest and objective you have to have the character to want to do both of those things. In the bible were told, “The word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edge sword, piercing to the division of soul and spirit, of joints and marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart (Zondervan).” For me when I hear this it makes me realize that I have a standard that I'm living up to. Its not just the standards of the “American Statistical Associations Ethical Guidelines for Statistical Practice” but its God standard that we are living out his word in our lives and when we do that it produces character inside of us that far exceeds the standards of this world. In the Book “Choosing Gods Best” it says in the middle of such massive changes in our culture, relationships, and decision making, one thing has not changed: Gods standards. They are the same yesterday, today, and forever. God has sent us no revisions to his original requirements (Raunikar). God has a standard for me to live up to and when I accepted him as my Lord and savior I proclaimed that he is my king and I will obey whatever he tells me to do and live up to his standards to the best of my ability. When it comes to making the right and wrong decision though it is always with in your ability to make the right decision.

With the Coca-Cola example I used in the beginning of the paper that was a real decision that a person had to make and there was a right and wrong decision. In the book “Marketing: The core” they asked that question, what would you do if you were approached by the competitor to buy the marketing strategy and a sample of there new product, what would you do? 67% percent said they would buy the pan and product sample if there were no repercussions.
