Destructive Leadership

My take on destructive leadership is a deviation from the norm. In my opinion, a leader is someone who has a picture of a desired destination, paints the picture of that destination for others to see and is able to inspire and encourage them to go with him to that destination. However, I believe strongly that in taking them to that destination, the leader is also creating a platform for those following him to exercise their potentials and become better individuals and in what they are called to do.
In my reading and watching of few video on destructive leadership, I have noted that a lot has been said about abusing position of authority, leaders who verbally abuse followers or workplace bullies, intimidate followers etc. No doubt all these are very destructive leadership which have negative impact on followers but in my opinion are more expressive and you know it is coming. However, there is a more destructive form of leadership which I feel created the destructive kind of leaders we have identified and mentioned above. It is the most dangerous and destructive of all the forms of destructive leadership (in my opinion) that I have seen expressed in both career and business and I have personally experienced it. I call them the ‘Watch You Self-Destruct’ destructive leaders
This was the kind of leader that I had in my early days as an aspiring leader. I was once a part of a spiritual organisation with about 300 - 350 followers where I was beginning to rise as a young leader. My potential as a leader had been noticed and as I was eager to take on more responsibilities, I was given more platforms and opportunity to express myself which was quite encouraging. I was even seconded to another location to start off a branch of that organisation. I felt I was doing well. I had all going for me. It was never in doubt I was going to do well.
