Introduction

Did you know that procrastination could be bad for your health? According to a study conducted by Doctor Timothy A. Pychyl associate professor of psychology at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada, concerning procrastination among students, both undergraduates and doctoral students. He found out that procrastination is a stressor and therefore undermines the immune system. Moreover, procrastinators tend to lead an unhealthy life (bad eating habits and insufficient sleep). For this project, we wanted to come up with an idea for a product that caters the needs of students. High school and college are undoubtedly highly stressful phases of one’s life. To make matters worse, today’s high unemployment rates and increasingly strict requirements burden students.

Nowadays, with the proliferation of social media and the exponential rise of technology breakthroughs and technology dependence, students are facing an increasing number of distractions. These innovations have reshaped the way people interact and have created a bubble where everyone is online 24/7.

We have experienced the mounting pressure students feel. We know how hard it is to keep your academic and your social life balanced. We also know how easy it is to get distracted because a whole interactive and exciting sphere is only a click away. This is why we have decided to come up with a tool that would help students manage their time more efficiently. Stoproc aims at minimizing interruptions and temptations to stay on to simply make it easier for students to get their work done.

Some would argue that putting your device away is enough, but we should not forget that a smartphone or a tablet are extremely useful tools for studying. This is why Stoproc allows the user to disable the app(s) that distracts him the most, without depriving them from beneficial features of their device.

Since we decided to develop an app, the challenges we face concern promotion, pricing and getting the message behind it through. Discoverability is crucial to the success of Stoproc and it is accomplished through an effective marketing plan.

Target Market

We chose to target high school and college students, both males and females, whose ages range between 13 and 24. Being students ourselves, we started by thinking about problems that we face in our academic life. We all agreed that our phones are a significant source of distraction be it Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat or Candy Crush. Sadly, not all of us have the will power needed to simply put our phones or tablets away. This is how we came up with the idea and the target audience choice was kind of trivial.
