Personal Effective Communication Model
My strengths as an effective communicator:
Self awareness- I Know my thoughts, value chain, beliefs and how they affect my behavior, it helps me to understand other people’s perceptions and build stronger relationships. Active Listener - I try to understand the words being communicated to me, as well as the meaning and importance behind those words and how the speaker feels about what is communicated. During conversation I’m asking questions, participate by sharing ideas to demonstrate interest in what is being said. We hear only half of what is said, understand only half of that, believe only half of that and remember only half of that. This rule emphasizes importance of attentive listening.Emotional balance- I stay calm and rational in stressful situations, try not to let emotions dictate and overwhelm my communication style.Congruence of verbal and nonverbal messages-I use eye contact, facial expressions and body orientation and try to align my messages with action, this increases credibility in me.Encouraging Feedback- I always give constructive feedback, which is focused on on behavior not personality.Sense of humor- I use this strength to pass my message along in a more relaxed way and bring people closer together. Effective mediator – I have empathy to help each party to stand in each other’s shoes and understand each other’s point of view. This strength in me is based on my core values fairness and being helpful for others.Clear and audience -oriented-During communication I summarize and clarify periodically key points, to explore any perceived contradictions.
