Elektromed Electronic Industry and Health Services Inc.

Introduction:

Bilkent University makes two summer internships obligatory in order to give chance students to practice what they learnt theoretically in the school season. IE 299 is the first compulsory summer training course. The aim of IE 299 course is to analyze and observe the manufacturing system in a company in a detailed way.

During the summer internship, it is expected to find answers to such questions as which tools, equipment and materials are used, why the company prefers them, how production processes are maintained in the factory, which manufacturing systems are used, what is the relation between departments and so on.

Regarding to these expectations, I found a chance to observe production and manufacturing systems in Elektromed Electronic Industry and Healthy Services Inc. Besides, machines, work stations and products were determined, handling systems were analyzed, Quality Department was observed especially.

This document was written to report my observation in the summer training with related data. This information was gathered from managers, employees, engineers and operators as much as the company allowed.

General Information about the Company:

Elektromed Elektronik Sanayi ve Sağlık Hizmetleri A.Ş (Elektromed Electronic Industry and Healthy Services Incorporation) was founded in 1994 in Ankara. Due to being an Inc there are several partial owner, Ahmet Kaya is the general manager and has the biggest share, besides, Mustafa Kaya, Ali Fatih Sahin, Tunca Inc and minor shareholders. The company maintained production until 1997 in a closed area of 2.500 m2 in its company headquarters in Siteler, Ankara. With its growing structure and production capacity, the company moved its manufacture activities to its modern factory with a closed area of 6.000 m2 in Organize Sanayi Bölgesi, Uygurlar Caddesi No:4 Sincan-Ankara as of 01.01.1998.

The company accelerated its investments with the advancements in technology, increased its production area to 12.000 m^2, increased its R&D spending for new projects and equipped its laboratories with the latest technology thus continuing its works in to become a school in the electronic meter sector.

Elektromed is manufacturing Natural Gas and Water Meters Pre-Paid Electronic Card under the brand name Alfagas and Electronic Electricity Meters under the brand name Alfatech. The company, by being the leader of its sector over a wide product range with its registered brand names Alfagas and Alfatech, has a production capacity that may meet all kinds of demands and a strong R&D structure.
