Problem statement
McKesson is the company I work for and they have one major compliance guideline for protecting the personal information of clients and patients. The uses of a fax machine leave a paper trail. PHI is at risk of being leaked outside of the company. The company has just switched to electronic transmissions for claims to the insurance companies a few months ago. We still have some payers who will only accept paper claims which are a problem. This can risk PHI getting out if not disposed of properly. The fax machines are used for sending personal information and prescriptions of patients to designated places that contain sensitive information on them.
