Everyday functions of a company consist of, organizing work, selecting process, arranging layouts, locating facilities, designing jobs, measuring performance, controlling quality, scheduling work, managing inventory, and planning production. The purpose of operations managers is to deal with the day to day needs of a company. Operations are an ongoing dilemma that consists of individuals who are well rounded. The core of a company consists of; marketing, finance, operations, and human resources. With operations being the face of the firm, there is little room for error.
One of the company's that competes and excels on cost is Walmart. Walmart's strategy is to have everyday low prices. Their objective is to sell products at a lower price than its competitors. Walmart is able to lead its competitors because of their supply chain. Walmart buy's their products from domestic and foreign market suppliers who are less expensive. This allows Walmart to sell their products at a lower price compared to their competitors, at a higher volume. Another company, that has excelled is Nike. Nike is able to provide quality products to their customer through inspiration and innovation. Nike inspires their customers by creating products that are durable, reliable, and adaptable to the consumers’ needs and wants. Nike has access to the most innovative technology for performance enhancement. Through their research labs located in Oregon. Nike is able to provide quality products by focusing their research on biomechanics, physiology, sensory perception and data science. Nike's testing methods could range from 3D motion analysis to blood chemistry analysis.
Amongst all companies Apple excels in speed. Apple produces at a much faster rate than all its competitors. Apple is constantly coming out with products that are far more advanced than others. Apples purpose is to create a product that is more efficient, appealing, and that has never been created.
