External Environment
Introduction:
The external environment is a crucial piece to the puzzle relating to StilSim Personnel. It is important to know what is going on in the world. The general environment consists of Sociocultural, Political, Global, Demographic, Technological, and Economic threats and opportunities. Three of these will impact StilSim; Demographic, Technological, and Economic. The competitive environment consists of Porters Five Forces; Intensity of Rivalry, Threat of Supplier Power, Threat of Buyer Power, Threat of Substitutes, and the Threat of New Entrants. Only three of these apply to StilSim; Intensity of Rivalry, Threat of Buyer Power, and Threat of Substitutes. This SWOT analysis will be evaluating the two components of the external environment, focusing on the opportunities and threats in each.
General Environment:
The general environment plays a huge role in every business and StilSim is no different. StilSim needs to pay attention to their surroundings and use them as an advantage as best as possible. By staying current with trends and events StilSim can maximize the potential of the environment.
Demographics:
Capital City: The middle class has been steadily migrating from the city to the surrounding suburbs, causing a decrease in potential candidates. Expansions of the University Hospital is causing a shift from basic labor needs to skilled personnel as healthcare continues to grow. A decrease in the Industrial industry is also contributing to the shift from basic labor to skilled personnel.
Lakeside: Local employment is on the downturn. The new lakeside hospital and medical center is causing a shift in personnel from general labor to skilled personnel. Green manufacturing is on the rise, but not enough so to cover the decreasing heavy industrial industry.
Mountainview: Tourism has been decreasing, causing a downturn in local employment and economy. Temporary and seasonal employment has also been effected. Local companies have been consolidating.
Technology: StilSim’s technology is behind the times. StilSim’s website contains no job postings nor any way for candidates to apply for them. There is no video conferencing or voicemail communications between co-workers or clients. There is no client or candidate database, which causes a slowdown in the back office operations. An update in technology will significantly speed up communications and processes.
