Effective Communication Paper

Effective communication is more than the words that are spoken. Good communication comes from the tone in the voice, the attention one is given when spoken too, the way our bodies move or position we stand. Even the way we write letters, notes, or emails with accuracy and clarity show good communication.

Work Organizational Model

I currently work for the Temecula Valley Unified School District, as an Instructional Assistant for a STEPPS class (children with severe autism and other special needs). The organizational model that best describes the work I do is functional organizational model. This model is perfect for the district due to the complexity and levels involved in running a school district.

Sharing Knowledge in the Work Place

Effective communication is the key to having a successful business. The district communicates through board meetings, individual school meetings, district emails and district mail. All district employees have employee email address and updates and important information is sent out from supervisor’s through these emails. The district also has there own mail system. This system goes to and from the district office and schools a lot faster than normal mail.

Effective Techniques in Healthcare

Effective communication in any healthcare setting is essential for patient safety and quality care. One way to ensure effective communication is through training. “Training in interpersonal communication skills and conflict resolution strategies typically involves role-playing exercises to help participants practice the behavior needed to resolve problems,”(Duggan, 2015. para1). Another way to communicate is through surveys or concerns/question boxes both can be anonymous. This allows information to be given to management without the employee feeling intimidated. Staff meetings and mass emails are also a way to communicate within the work place.

Ineffective Techniques in Healthcare

Ineffective communication in healthcare can cause lawsuits or major medical emergencies. The lack of communication can create situations where medical errors can occur, which can have potential to cause severe injury or unexpected patient death (O’Daniel & Rosenstein, 2008). Poor communication can also cause ineffective teamwork with the employees.

Technology

Technology plays a huge role in healthcare and it will continue to make advancements in the future. One way technology has made a major change in communication within the healthcare field is with the electronic health records. Another technical device is the self-service kiosk, this eliminates some communication. “Self-service kiosks can assist patients with co-pays, checking identification, signing paperwork and other registration requirements,” (Jayanthi, 2014). These devices help improve healthcare and save time.
