Evaluation Criteria
Evaluation within any organization is a very important part of improving the systems within the company. Understanding the importance of evaluation for the event-driven professional development activities, such as seminars and workshops can lead to a great deal of success within a professional development plan. At Apple there are many opportunities for employees to be evaluated through many different avenues such as study groups, collaborative planning, structured observations, action research, and peer coaching/mentoring. Through these evaluations the organization can determine whether the activities that are being done are achieving their desired purpose. It is important that when evaluating the development the participants’ reactions are taken into consideration. Did the participants’ enjoy the training? Was the training time well spent? Was the leader knowledgeable and helpful? Questions such as though can help the organization determine if the training provided was adequate and got the point across.
Measures and Collection Points
Each evaluation is a deliberate action that generates data for the organization to that will help the organization determine what future development is or is not needed within the professional development plan. Measuring the successes and failures of a professional development plan can mean the difference between a good and a horrible professional development plan. Measure of successful development plan should inform the organization whether the goals have: achieved the results expected, produced unwanted/expected results, whether the goals should be measured in other ways, if the goal should even continue. Without knowing a head of time what is successful within the plan or organization it is hard to determine if the plan is successful so it is important to determine a head of time what success is to the organization.
Timeframe
Timeframe is a very important aspect of any professional development plan as it allows for the organization to determine what time the data is collected or which time the development plan takes place. Timeframe also allows for the organization to give the plan time to succeed or time for the plan to fail. If the organization does not give the plan enough time to succeed or time to fail the organization will not get the more on point and accurate information which can lead to poor decisions being made. Have enough time will allow for the organization to decide if the company would be better off going in a different direction to help ensure a better future for the organization. Our organization has taken all of this into consideration and decided that it would be best to use a weekly timeframe for our professional development plan as it is a very good way to determine if the plan is progressing.
