Identification of the Problems within Walmart

While Walmart has been ranked as the number one retailer in the United States of America and in other various countries Walmart still faces several problems or issues within the organization. For instance, the issues within the Walmart organization can be divided into three different categories. The three categories are extensive labor relation issues, community relation issues, and lastly, miscellaneous public relation issues. These categories need to be addressed in order for Walmart to accurately identify the issues within the organization and to establish possible solutions and strategies.

Case Study Analysis of the Problems

Common issues within the Walmart organization are extensive labor relation issues. Essentially, Walmart is highly opposed to a unionized labor (Fact Sheet, 2001). Labor groups have cited wage issues, shift scheduling issues, and workpeferenceslace rights abuse. The above mentioned issues seem to be against Walmart’s founding principles of respect for their employees. Walmart is also in frequent legal trouble with regulators and union groups in the courts (Quinn, 2002, pgs. 89-115).

Community relation’ issues tend to exist with a corporation as large as Walmart. Likewise, when an organization is as successful as Walmart, many individuals will challenge and scrutinize he organization for various things. Community groups have been known to file complaints accusing Walmart of “destroying the local retail environment in the downtowns of small towns” (Pereira, 2002). Small business owners that have been put out of business by large retailers like Walmart are among Walmart’s most vicious critics. Walmart has been known to wage aggressive price wars and use its power to bully its suppliers (Quinn, 2002, pgs. 89-115).
