Explain what practical steps managers can take to improve ethical decision making.
Ethics is a set of moral values which clearly defines what’s right and what’s wrong on the part of employees either individually or as a group. Unethical behavior often found to be in violation of organizational rules and hits established culture. Modern Corporations are found to be great positions so as to influence the society and cultures both businesswise and socially and thus any unethical action on their part damages social fabric to a larger extent. Ad if these corporations do engage in unethical behaviour they would be held liable for their actions be liable for greater legislative scrutiny.to improve ethical decision making managers can take the following steps:
• Select and hire ethical employees
Corporates shall endeavour to hire an employee who does not cheat. People who as shown the tendency to cheat and disrupt productive activities shall be kept off the payroll. Such people not only cheat again but very much likely to influence others to cheat. The selection process consisting of a layered interview process, adequate tests , cleverly designed background checks, is an ideal way of selecting ethical employees.
• Establish a Code of Ethics
Each corporation shall have its code of ethics and compulsorily be followed by all the members. If an organization has a comprehensive ethics program in place, it can potentially improve an organization’s ethical climate. There are no guarantees however that a well-designed ethics program will lead to the desired outcome always. Sometimes corporate ethics programs are little more than public relations gestures that do little to influence managers and employees.
