Individual Assignment for Final Project

Our challenge is to investigate delinquency and default management of other European microfinance organizations relative to that of PinnaeFoundation. As delinquency and default management of MFI is an absolute new concept to me (I have zero finance academic background) no mention it is the MFI in European market (I come from China), I would firstly try to understand the challenge by carrying out some fundamental researches about MFIs in Spain and the problems they are facing in terms of default. Until I get a general and clear idea of the aforementioned information, I would not be able to conduct any quality analysis.

Ideally, several approaches I would adopt during the project:

  • Draw a mind map to include all the stakeholders, linkages(i.e network effects)  among them and activities in different scenarios.
  • Conduct field work including interviewing financing service provider (MFIs) in Spain and outside of Spain; interviewing the service receivers of MFIs; and interviewing research organizations in the said topic.

Through mind-mapping, I would like to sort out the relationship between stakeholders of MFIs and make several hypothesis of the factors that could affect the relationships and that could lead to default or minor crime. And by doing the field work, I would expect to cross check with the previous assumptions and hypothesis, thus make solid conclusion or findings.

I would propose my group with the following steps in project planning:

  • Step 1: have individual research and understanding of the project
  • Step 2: exchange researches and ideas in the group and define the project direction
  • Step 3: design a timeline for the project, divide the work and start contacting and coordinating with stakeholders for interviews
  • Step 4: record progresses of the project such as keeping a project journal and carry out field work
  • Step 5: sum up the experiences and findings of the field work, draw conclusion with consensus, and make the final Power Point
  • Step 6: hear feedback from either Pinnae Foundation or course Professor
