Inspire and Motivate
Managers and Leaders must inspire and motivate. The importance of motivation and inspiration within an organization is significant. If the organizational leadership fail to motivate or inspire, very little will get done or accomplished. Motivation is critical to the success of any organization.
In order to inspire or motivate a leader must recognize the needs and wants of his / her superiors and subordinates. He / she must then assess those needs and wants, to the needs and wants of the organization. Leaders also use motivational intrinsic and extrinsic awards. Intrinsic rewards are the rewards that generate internal satisfaction. These are the rewards that individuals find satisfaction while performing from within. These rewards are internal and controlled by the individual. It is controlled by self-determination and the need for proficiency. This intrinsic award fuels competency.
However, extrinsic rewards are given by someone else. These rewards could include pay increases, recognition, awards and bonuses. There are many organizations that use this type of motivational technique to inspire their associates. Nevertheless, if there is a monetary requirement above and beyond plaques and recognition this will fall short of motivation.
Empowerment appears to be one of the most powerful forms of motivation. This allows employees to achieve gratification in their jobs beyond a paycheck. Managers and leaders can inspire commitment and motivation by empowerment. Empowerment meets the advanced desires of the employee. It allows the employee to become fully engaged in their assigned tasks and to have a true sense of ownership of the final outcome.
