Introduction

The purpose of this Report is to provide an external environmental analysis for Old Chang Kee Singapore. Doing a study and research on the company. Providing a short brief history and also a overview of Old Chang Kee. Secondly, by using the PESTAL analysis (Political, Economical, Social, Technological, Environmental and Legal) and also using explanation of Poter’s Five framework to analyses Old Chang Kee Standing in Singapore’s FnB Industry (Food and Beverage), and lastly, providing suggestions and recommendations to improve Old Chang Kee’s Strategies  

Old Chang Kee is a well-known food chain in Singapore for their Hainanese-style curry puffs, which first sold in 1965. The first stall was open by Hainanese immigrant Chang Chuan Boo at Koek Road and selling the curry puffs that begin to be popular and famous and he moved to Albert Street and later open his second stall at Mackenzie Road, Near the Rex Cinema where his stall become famous and selling 700 to 900 curry puffs a day and earned the name “Old Chang Kee”

In 1986 Chang Chuan Boo decided to return to china and retire from his business and The business was bought over and revamped in 1986 by a small group of investors that were led by Han Keen Juan. The business was expanded over the years in Singapore and most of the shops are located in shopping malls, petrol kiosk and CBD (Central Business District) areas and also including different variety of fried snacks and also ready to go meals. Old Chang Kee now have eighty outlets operating across Singapore with two in Malaysia, three in china, four in Indonesia and three in Philippines

2.1 Political

Singapore’s people’s Action Party (PAP) is the most popular party among Singaporeans and the strongest compared to the other party. Singapore’s people’s Action Party has been rising the standards of Singapore in many way in terms of prosperity, economically and bringing Singapore to the top attracting many other countries to even start a business in Singapore since independence and implementing far-sighted policies and have created an evolution which the multi-cultural society appreciate the high standard of living (The Economist Intelligence Unit Limited, 2015). In terms of security the Singapore Government is well known for being very firm and takes a serious view of any form of support for terrorism and will not hesitate to take decisive action against any person who are link in any form of activity that is destructive to Singapore’s National and radical and religious harmony under the law (Government of Singapore, 2016). Therefore Old Chang Kee and other business from different industry will enjoy stability from political view.

2.2 Economic

Since Singapore gained its independence in 1960s it had achieved an economy miracle for fifty years, moving forward for the next five decades the growth matrix will be even more challenging and complex one as Singapore economy had matured and entering a brand new phase by shifting its strategies away from the earlier of picking winning sectors – such as the electronic and petrochemical cluster, therefore to drive the next phase of economic beyond 2015, the government had role out the skills Initiatives Program which help Singaporeans to equip with the skills that prepares and enable themselves in their careers and also SME’S to drive the economic growth (Tay, 2015)
