How good do our IT services really need to be? & How much should we spend on IT? These can be very difficult questions. I think that issue is associated with how much an organization/company chooses to use IT in its day to day operations. I would think that any organization/company would invest/spend a large amount of money in the IT Department because they are the ones that are working to assist their company stay functional and organized by the maintaining the many different programs/software that are being used every day.

Although money is an issue for many Blood Centers/Banks (because they are not-for-profit), they rely on for their IT department or outside software companies to help/assist them with staying organized and LEAN since everything that gets done in this industry is very regulated (FDA, AABB, EU, CLIA and other accreditation agencies). Any mistake that is done can be very detrimental to the company (worst case: life versus dead in regards to a sick patient at a hospital).

Each of the 3 types of IT has to go through the 3 steps mentioned in the subject of this thread. Do you have any experience with this? What about adoption of Enterprise systems? What kind of strain does that put on an organization (personal examples are great).

Selection- I wanted to find one program where it will pull data from my BEC system, causing me not to collect information/data from bunch different locations/programs/queries throughout the day. Also, other departments within my company wanted to find a program that will assist in Demand Planning, QC sampling, and Mobile Collections. I was able to narrow my findings to two programs following many presentations/meetings.

Adoption- After choosing the program that I felt that will help assist the Blood Center I work for, we had to work together with the program’s developers and customize the program to fit the needs of our company.
