Leadership Assessment
Are you a leader or a manager? This paper will first discuss the author’s leadership and management styles based on the online result of online leadership test. Additionally, it will explain the difference between leadership and management roles. This topic is very informative because most people do not know the difference between the two. The reason being is they are nearly synonymous and used interchangeably.
The Author’s Leadership Style Assessment Result
The author scored the highest as an “Experienced Guide.” This means he listens a lot and put himself in other’s shoes. He has a way of helping people think about their problems. He is a natural therapist. The author is a seemingly bottomless well of information on many ranges of topics. He can supply anyone with the right words of wisdom to help them.
This assessment is spot on because the author is a retired Senior Chief in the United States Navy. Being a chief means being a leader and a father figure to the many young sailors, he led in his 22 years in the service. These young sailors, some fresh from high school, needed lots of guidance not just about their careers but also their personal lives. A navy chief is a technical expert in his field, a subject matter expert, so by default, he is already considered an experienced guide.
The online assessment result also states that the author is often sought for advice and that he naturally becomes a minister, counselor or a trusted advisor. He is happy helping others see the bigger picture and empathize.
He also scored high in being a creative builder. As a creative builder, he is a visionary and entrepreneur, happiest and most driven at the start of things. He instinctively sees new opportunities for new products, new companies, spot niche markets, new ideas, receive ideas from others and make them real. This is also spot on because he always tried new processes in the Navy to improve things. He always believes and makes happen about new and improved ways of doing things. In personal life he is also an entrepreneur, always have part-time business going along with the Navy career.
He scored lowest as an advocate. The result says that being an advocate means acting as a spokesman for a group. The reason for this is because in the military, although he always took care and fought for his people, he cannot go against the grain when an order is given from the higher chain of command.
Difference Between Leadership and Management Roles
