Morality is a very critical and essential component of leadership. Leadership is a position of power and influence, involves creating a vision, setting a direction and aligning people, and it is strongly tied with morality. This paper examines team leadership from a morality perspective and argues that morality is a necessary component of team leadership. The paper also highlights reasons why team leaders must set a high moral standard for themselves and their team.

Leadership in a team

Leadership is considered a very complex and special quality when it comes to organizations. Looking at it closely, leadership is a part of our day-to-day lives. Almost every day we make decisions that affect and influence other people on some level, take charge of certain situations and lead ourselves and others. This is what leadership is all about in simple words. However, applied to massive organizations, involving thousands of people, leadership can take a whole new meaning.

Team leadership is more than being in charge of a group of people and having a positive influence on them. Team leadership is about trust, relationships and mentoring. A team leader’s task is to inspire, motivate and steer their team members towards shared goals and objectives. It is their responsibility to harness the unique talents of their team members in order to achieve their mission. An ideal team leader would give importance to everyone in their team, and act with compassion and empathy.

So what is effective team leadership? Although many known researchers and famous people in business and management have tried to give a definition of leadership, there is no single definition that takes into account all the traits of a good team leader.
