MID SHOT OF THE ANCHOR

  1. Hello….. Skillizens!! Welcome again! I am so excited to be with you all for another wonderful year of skilling! Before we start the fourth session of leadership, Let’s take a quick look at the learning goals on leadership skills for this year…….
  2. Well……our main aim this year will be to learn about roles of leaders in our community, which will be spread over four sessions covering various features of leadership related to our society such as:
  1. Roles of leaders in our community
  2. Why humility & caring in must for leaders?
  3. Courage: the Key to Great Leadership
  4. How a leader chooses between the needs and wants of society?
  1. Skillizens….you must have heard that every Community needs a leader……but why is that so?? Can’t a community exist  without a leader? Well ……an example could help us understand the underlying logic. Have you seen a train going somewhere? Who is leading it?  Who is at the front? Yes…it’s the engine…… It is same with our community leaders. Leaders are like the engine of any community, and they guide and give directions to the community.  Got the point….?
  2. Now, let’s start today’s session. Our session objectives are:
  1. Roles leaders play in a community.
  2. Different ways in which good leaders help their community.
  3. Examples of leaders caring for people in the community.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Roles leaders play in a community.
  2. Different ways in which good leaders help their community.
  3. Real-world examples of leaders caring for people in the community.

All these objectives should come one by one on screen as the Anchor is speaking [d Para] Also give the heading as Learning Objectives.

ANCHOR VOICE In

Background

  1. Community leaders build community!  They bring certain changes to their community that makes everyone’s life better. Increasing job opportunities for the community, founding a day care center, getting rid of a waste dump are some examples of such changes.
  2. Well!! Now lets think about an important question……who is a community leader??. A community leader can be a person who dives into the water to rescue a drowning child. Maybe someone who cleverly persuades people to contribute and make a new library for the community. Or….simply a person who finds a solution to some problem of the community……It could be anyone……even you can be a community leader!

 [Pop up question 1]

  1. Well, let me tell you a story of 2 sons of a king; both leaders of their people but ….with a big difference! One grew up to become a great community leader and the other one ….well, he lacked something, let’s see what ????

Peter voice over

Soldier voice over

  1. Once upon a time, in the Kingdom of Dreamland, there was a king who had two sons named Peter and Albert.
  2. Both of them were very much devoted to their father.
  3. Once a great drought struck their kingdom. The king’s country estates faced a serious water shortage.
  4. King called his sons and said, “My dear children, our country estates in north and south are facing a serious water shortage, I’m going to give each of you a big responsibility.
  5. “Peter, take as much as you want from treasury and build a large canal in the north part of kingdom to supply water to my country estates”, the king ordered his elder son.
  6. “You too Albert, but you will cover the south region of kingdom”, the king told his younger son.
  7. Both sons said, “ Your wish is our command father.”
  8. Peter took part of his father's riches and part of the army. With them, he travelled north where he ordered the people of those lands to work hard on building the canal.
  9. He supervised the work very carefully, paying the villagers fairly, and finishing the project within two years.
  10. Proud of his work, he returned to the palace with his army; he reached the palace only to find the place in the midst of celebrations.
  11. He asked the gatekeeper, “ What are these celebrations for? Are people celebrating my return?”
  12. “No Sir”, the gatekeeper replied hesitantly.
  13. “Then what” the prince almost shouted.
  14. “Sir, your brother is being crowned as King”, replied the gatekeeper.
  15. “Sir, your brother had taken only one year to build his canal in the south, and he managed to do the job with hardly any soldiers or money! Our emperor was very happy and he declared that Prince Albert will be the future king”, the gatekeeper further added.
  16. This seemed so strange to Peter that he began to investigate the southern canal. He found more than a few irregularities.
  17. He returned to the palace, sought the king, “father! stop this madness of making Albert King.
  18. "Why are you saying that? Is there something I should know?" asked the King.
  19. "You know how much I love my brother, but he has gone crazy”, the prince replied.
  20. “How”? asked the king.
  21. “He has destroyed your reputation. He built this canal not according to the plans you gave him. He created so many outlets for the villages that barely half the water arrives at our country estates. He opposed the prime minister in front of the villagers, and did not pay any of the workers. He even used your soldiers as labourers," He said.
  22. The King, gazing tenderly at his son replied, "My son, what you say is true. Your brother took the initiative to modify the canal to improve it; he took this initiative to improve the lives of everyone. He convinced the villagers to work quickly and without pay. He had the courage to challenge the prime minister to defend justice, and the charisma to set his soldiers to work for longer hours than the villagers. His commitment was so great that he himself was the one who worked hardest on the project, forgetting his Princely status. You know what, my son? This is why everyone adores your brother, and they would do anything for him. He is more than their King, he is their true leader".
  23. Peter came to recognize the greatness of his brother and without hesitation, he ran to his brother, congratulated him and hugged him and said, “you are the true leader……my brother……..my king!”

  2. As a matter of fact, the first thing you need to become a good community leader is to have a dream for your community and that also on a biiiiigggg scale……..i.e. on community scale. Of course, after that you need to selflessly work towards making the dream come true.
  3. Ok, let’s see, how a leader can help his community through this short but sweet story of Anita…..a sweet little girl!

Voice of Anita

Voce of mother

Voice of friend

Voice of Vikki

  1. Anita is an eight-year-old girl living in the city of Gurgaon in India.
  2. Every morning, while waiting for her school bus, she saw a group of poor children studying under a tree.
  3. She asked her mother why these children are not studying in a school. Her mother told her, “These are poor children. Their parents cannot afford to send them to school, hence some people have are helping them by teaching here.”
  4. Her curiosity was aroused so, she decided to know more about these children. She got a chance one day in the evening when she was playing in the park. She saw two of those children, one boy and one girl, playing in the park. Anita went to them and introduced herself.
  5. “Hi! I am Anita. I saw both of you studying under the tree.”
  6. “Hi, My name is Adi and this is my sister Pinki. Our mother works as a maid in the society.”” The boy told Anita.
  7. “Why do you people study under a tree?” Anita asked.
  8. “Our parents are poor; they do not have enough money to send us to school. Some ladies from society teach us in their free time.” Pinki said. “We do not have books and copies and pen and pencils.” She further added.
  9. Anita was shocked to hear this. She went to her home with a sad heart. Her mother asked, “Anita, what’s the matter? Why have you got such a long face?”
  10. Anita told her about Adi and Pinki.
  11. Her mother said, “Darling, do not think too much about the poor children. Some people help them by donating old books & stationary. You cannot do anything about it.”
  12. Anita thought for a moment and said, “But Mom, if instead of some people, all people start contributing, then their problem of school education can be solved easily.”
  13. “Yes, it can be done but who is going to do all the work. It is a tough job.” Her mother said.
  14. “I will do it.” She eagerly said. Seeing her eagerness, her mother agreed and also promised to help her.
  15. With a sense of determination, she started putting together a plan. In the evening, she collected all her friends and told them about Adi, Pinki all other children who needed their help. All of them agreed to help. “So, Anita, how do we start?” One of her friend asked.
  16. “Well! I have made a plan. Let me tell you.” Anita replied eagerly. “First we will form a group and also involve Adi, Pinki and her friends to help us collect all the things which they need for their education.
  17. “Yes! We will name our group ‘Friends Forever’ ” shouted Anita’s friend Vikki.
  18. “No….. Let us name it ‘Friends in Need’” said Anita.
  19. Yes! Yes! Yes!......all other children agreed enthusiastically. “Friends in Need is a good name.”
  20. “Ok! Let it be ‘Friends in Need’. Now let me tell you my complete plan” Anita pleaded. “We will divide into teams of two people each. Each team will have one child from the society and one from school. Then we will visit homes in society. We will request people to donate old books and stationary. We will also prepare leaflets and stick them on all notice boards of society. We will also organize street plays.” “Wow! What a brilliant idea!” exclaimed all her friends.
  21. Next day onwards, ‘Friends in Need’ started their campaign. They started posting notices, distributing leaflets and visiting homes in the society.
  22. Their efforts started bearing fruits. People started bringing old books and stationary. Even people from other societies started collecting things to help the children. In a few weeks, Anita’s group has collected enough material to last a few years! Anita did not stop at it.
  23. Soon she and her group started organizing evening classes in labourers’ colony where even the poor children’s parents took part in the classes. She taught them about hygiene and other basic human skills.
  24. Very soon everyone noticed marked improvement in the life of those poor children. Seeing Anita’s efforts bearing good results, many people joined her cause. Even the elderly people started coming and helping.
  25. A small step by Anita has turned into a revolution! Her work and dedication has brought a positive change into the society.
