Identifying case study issues (primary and secondary)

The primary problem in this case is that Ced is too focused on obtaining the short term goal which is to increase its profits by investing in the age care industry for maintaining Indian Ocean Finance (IOF) Pty. Ltd’s reputation. He successfully managed to convince the board on the needs and benefits of investing in an age care industry. However, the fact that he ignores the concerns by some board members that are necessary to take into consideration before entering to an unfamiliar market was essential. Therefore, He has failed to plan on the long term goals in terms of operations, financial, requirements and concerns before entering into the industry.

The secondary problems that could arise are the staffing and regulatory components of aged care. Since Ced is new to this industry, he would not have sufficient knowledge in operating and selection of the appropriate skilled staff to deliver the required level of care. Therefore, there is a need to monitor the number of staff required for the daily operation and the right staff with the qualified skills to cater for the special needs of an increasing aging population. In order to provide quality aged care services for the elderly citizens, it is important to attract and retain qualified staffs to create happiness among the staffs. The staffs are the ones who suffered loss and grief in their work environment, thus it is important that we take care of their well-being. There might also be insufficient number of beds to accommodate the high demand of healthcare for the aging population in Australia due to the lack of funds available with a fixed amount of operating costs.
