- The stade of Qatar nowadays
Qatar, a sovereign Arab country, is a small country in the Middle East in Asia. Qatar is neighbored by four countries, to the west Saudi Arabia, to the north Bahrain, to the south the United Arab Emirates and to the east the closest country to it is Iran. In 2013, Qatar's total population was 1.8 million, with a high level of expatriates (82%) : 278,000 Qatari citizens and 1.5 million expatriates. Qatar has a desert climate: The winters of Qatar are very peaceful and it will usually rain during this period and the summers are extremely humid and hot.
Qatar became an independent nation in 1971 and refused an invitation to join the United Arab Emirates. Before the independence, the British took control of Qatar when they discovered high quality oil after the Turks left and recognized sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim Al Thani to be ruler. Thani bin Mohammed al Thani was elected as the ruler of Al Bida which is now Doha in 1971. Now, Qatar is a constitutional monarchy: a monarchy is a type of government that one person has control of. Its head of state is Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
Besides, about customs in the country we know that Qatar is governed by Muslims and is influenced by Islam, most of the celebrations and big occasions that happen in Qatar are linked to Islam. Qataris adhere to the strict Wahhabi interpretation of Islam: sharia law is the main source of Qatari law according to Qatar's Constitution. Religion and culture in Qatar have a great influence on the society.
Moreover, Qatar is the world's richest country per person in term of Purchasing Power Parity in $ (PPP). Qatar is the world's third largest natural gas reserves and oil reserves (more than 25 billion barrels). Indeed, the whole economy is now depending on oil and natural gas. Most of people in Qatar work in oil companies, trading or in companies with projects to get Qatar ready for its future.
