COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Corporate Project Experience (DS 775) course is a required course in the undergraduate Information Systems & Business Analytics (ISBA) curriculum.  Its primary objective is to provide students with real-life experience in integrating the knowledge gained from the coursework taken here at UNH with existing organizations where information technology is an important resource in delivering goods and services to its clients.

In this course students will work in groups of four to five on projects identified by sponsoring organizations.  Students will be actively involved in projects that involve information technology or business analytics.  This may include data gathering and requirements planning, data flow analysis, systems design, systems testing, or data collection and analysis. They will participate in meetings and discussions with end-users and project team members including project managers.  In additional they will work closely with a faculty member who will help students integrate the conceptual frameworks and models learned at Paul College with the challenges of their real-world experiences.

Examples of past projects include (not a complete list): web strategy/site development and implementation, database management systems, e-commerce solutions, data analytics for various information systems, data security analysis, systems analysis, technical and financial feasibility studies, and marketing information strategy studies. The course provides students with an opportunity to integrate concepts and skills learned in prior business, technology and analytics courses.

All projects will follow the “best practices” defined by the Project Management Institute’s Project Management Body of Knowledge, PMBOK. These practices will be covered in this course via assigned readings and quizzes. All written material, including the final project report must conform to these practices.

Each student group is required to make at least one presentation to the sponsoring organization as part of their class assignments. This usually occurs at the end of the semester.

Each student is expected to keep an accurate log of time spent, visits made during the course of the project.
