Starting out this trimester I was not sure what to think about college writing. Sure I had some of the basics down from Eng 1001 but I can honestly say that I’ve picked up a few pointers along the way in researching and writing about the various topics and also from the discussions in class. One of the most important tips I learned is that if you have to write about something, pick a topic you care about or are interested in.
My first paper was an argument analysis called “Soda Ban” which talked about Mayor Bloomberg’s recent proposal to ban soda and sugar based drinks larger than 16 ounces. I found this topic fairly interesting because it was related to my current fitness and weight loss plan.
Second, I wrote a review of motorcycle tires. In my honest opinion there is no better subject to write about than something to do with one of your favorite hobbies, thus I was able to bring a few of my person experiences in this area. The review took a deeper look into the world of motorcycle tires and discussed the importance of picking the right ones, and how to do so.
My third subject was a commentary about our current food supply, particularly beef. This paper discussed a few of the dirty little secrets behind the scenes within our beef supply. How cattle is being raised, and treated. It also gave some solutions we all could follow to make the situation better.
Lastly my team and I looked into some of the reasons why we seem to be surrounded with poor quality products. The paper went on to discuss why there is a need for different price and quality ranges. This subject I found most interesting as it hit very close to home with my budget tighter than ever.
Although this class was challenging, I found it rewarding to see the final product built from scratch. During this process I feel as though I have grown a little as a writer, and feel it will serve me well in the future.
